arfink
I wonder if the degree will be worth anything to employers in that case. Of course, it's a liberal arts degree... Given a yearly tuition of roughly $28,000 and they only are paying for 3 years worth, that means you still pay room and board AND your fourth year. Sounds like a clever way to compete with community colleges.

Innocent
And last time I checked, more people from my college's graduating class got jobs through family and friend connections than by what they majored in. Humanities OR technical fields.
I suppose this phenomenon is more prevalent in certain places than in others. In my case, I can count on the fingers of one hand, and still have one or two fingers left over, the number of people, (considering classmates, both from school and college, as well as my acquaintances) who got jobs through family and friend connections than by what they majored in. Of course, if by "friend connections" you also mean to include the situation where a particular company is impressed by our seniors who got placed there and thus favourably considers the CVs of the students of my batch that the aforesaid seniors forwarded to the company, then I'd probably have to correct my above estimate. However, my pool of samples is not as balanced as yours since most of my friends are in technical fields.
Basilisa Marie
Innocent - I graduated May 2011 from a small, private, Catholic liberal arts type (that is, has a core curriculum with more meat than gen-ed credits) college in Maryland, so that's where I'm coming from. Ignoring the people who went onto grad school or medical school, I know more people that ended up getting a job that had nothing really to do with what they majored in than those who got a job directly related to their major. Most of those people got jobs due to personal connections (some, but not all, like the internship-to-job-type scenario I think you're describing). My school is also a big feeder into the FBI and other government jobs. Granted, my pool might be skewed as well, seeing as it doesn't matter quite as much what you major in at a school with a strong liberal arts core curriculum, because you've taken more classes outside your field than if you had gone to another kind of college. I suppose if one didn't go to a liberal arts school, then it does matter more what you major in.

Basilisa Marie
Do they have a graduate program?
Can't tell, as their site is down due to the HUGE amounts of traffic they're getting from the article, lol. But in case you're wondering, tuition for grad programs usually is a completely separate monster from undergrad stuff.
