Well, there are apostles and there are Apostles. The latter refers to the original 12. Bishops are apostles, but they're successors to the original 12 Apostles.

I know that probably sounds retarded, but that's the best way I know how to explain it.

We cannot all be Apostles and we are not all Apostles. We can all be disciples or followers. An "apostle" is one who is sent (by God). We are not sent by God, but we can follow Him and His Church. God bless.

the lumberjack

so are you saying that the priests and bishops and heirarchy of the Catholic Church are Apostles?

because that is where I would have to differ...Apostles, according to the Bible, had certain criteria that made them Apostles.

I DO agree, however, that we are all disciples and followers of Christ.

Amen.

Lumberjack, note the upper and lower case letters. The Apostles are the original twelve, sent forth by God to minister to His Church. Bishops today are apostles in the same sense, shepherding the flock by the same guidelines instructed from the mouth of Christ, even before the Bible was written down, approved, and preserved by them.

kind of like the difference between church and Church....the uppercase denotes the proper noun while the former denotes just a regular noun

You need to remember that although the words we use may be the same, Catholic and Protestant understanding of them is very different......the use of Catholic and catholic in the creed for example!
