Guest William Plaster
Several years ago, I set off to a private Catholic university to study philosophy in an attempt to destroy God. I figured that there was no one better to learn from than the Catholics. Two words into my first class, absolute truth was proven to me. 5 minutes later, a begining to time. I left the University deeply spiritual but feeling antireligious. The time has come for me to convert. I realize that closet faith is next to useless, and besides, I need a little more structure in my life. What do I do? Where do I go? Who do I talk to? What is involved? Can I go through it with my girlfriend? Insert any questions that I don't know to ask here? And here? And here? Thanks. Keep in mind, while I know a fair bit about Catholic doctrine, I know nothing about the Church. I am attracted to the intellectual nature of the church. The specific function of man is to reason, and while I know that God can't be put in a box... "That's just one of those things..." doesn't cut it for me. St. Augustine's question about which came first, the knowing of God or the calling upon God is a good one, and his answer is better. I believe that faith preceeds reason so, consider this my act of faith. I am calling out. So, please, enlighten me.
Theoketos
Find a good parish. (The following are not absolutes for a good parish but are typical. Look for 24 Adoration, the Extra-ordinary form, pro-life business going on, the tabernacle in the front and center, use of communion rails, use of chant, and a holy priest.) Attend RCIA, with your beloved. (BTW have you read Love and Responsibility?) Go to Mass every Sunday (and more if possible.) PM with your city and I might be able to suggest specific churches.
