Vincent Vega
It seems that the organ is the most proper instrument for the Mass since because of it's reverent tone that lifts music to heaven.
The issue I have with arguments like this is that it's so culturally subjective (reverence in tone). It, too, was once a secular instrument, being used in ancient Roman circuses. (Not to mention the fact that an organ of respectable size might have 50-100+ different tone colors. Which of them, specifically, are (aren't) reverent?)
I'm not arguing that the organ isn't the most fit sacred instrument. I'm studying organ at the university level, so obviously for job security I need it to be true, let alone the fact that I believe it to be the most suited. It's just I think most arguments based on logic like that are kind of silly.
Edited February 23, 2012 by USAirwaysIHS
missionseeker
I am glad you pointed that out, USair. Whether the guitar has "been approved" or not (which I am not sure where you read/heard/got that from) it is not fitting according to all the other church documents. cmotherofpirl
well the USCCB has approved the guitar for use at Mass in the United States.
But does your individual bishop? He is the one with authority in your diocese.
