OnlySunshine
I was curious about something regarding Ash Wednesday. Why does Lent start on a Wednesday instead of a Friday? I always wondered that. Is it based on something in the Bible? I know that the ashes are based on Genesis but I don't know how Ash Wednesday started. I'd really like to know! Thank you! CatherineM
It has to do with the whole "40 days in the desert" thing. If you count back from Easter, not counting Sundays, you get 40 days to Ash Wednesday. We don't count Sundays because they are always considered feast days so they don't count as part of the days of Lent.
