DMcB
Fr. Pontifex brought it!!! And the fella with the beard & baldie had such charity and kindness in his words; clearly, a man not seeking to bicker over words but wanting to bring the beauty of Christ's church to those disenchanted with religion. Guest Dylan BigBro Romano
i like the response and in the end it comes down to your definition of religion for jefferson bethke his definition is clearly different to fr pontifex a few questions i have as someone who attends a baptist church. can you explain to me why catholics place importance on things like confession? my understanding is that you go to the priest who intercedes for you and allows your sins to be forgiven after you say a few hail marys or something, sounds like idolatry to me. As Christians we are able to go straight to God for forgiveness of sins Also the whole grace and works thing, or is that obsolete now? by that I mean historically Catholics have placed an importance on works to get into heaven (i have experienced this belief among Catholics in the Phillipines) A response would be much appreciated Your brother in Christ, Dylan

I was raised Southern Baptist, so can understand some of your questions. First, let me recommend a book, Swear to God by Scott Hahn. He goes through the theology of the Sacraments, which might be of interest to you. I think there's a false dichotomy set up with confession being either to God or a priest: Catholic confession is to God through a priest. Perhaps it's good to think of the priest as a telephone in a way. Why do we do this? Because Jesus gave the Apostles the authority to forgive sin, because Scripture and Tradition command us to confess (see James, for example). We are absolved by God through the prayers of he priest. We cannot work for our forgiveness. It has never been Carholic teaching that one can work his way to Heaven. Faith and works are inseparable, though. I must be running now. May God bless you. Ice_nine
I will also say in terms of Confession, I believe the Great Physician Himself knew that on a practical level the Sacrament would be psychologically beneficial. One for accountability. You can't just sin in private and confess in private which can lead to a cycle of presumption on God's grace, and there's something about saying your sins aloud to a moral leader that frees your mind from guilt. [/quote] He is! He has a coat (Greco) over his cassock. I TOLD him he should have taken the coat off!!! Spirit Juice said the coat was better for filming because it was more "shiny". lol

Pontifex
So, by the end of the 24 hours it was at 70,000 views. I think that it shows a real impact is being made and quickly. The weekend will only bring more frenzy to this. Blessings and prayers to the pham. Btw, we need the fuzzy bunnies over at the comment thread, in love, for the video. It needs some theological hopping. lol Peace, fr. P
