twf
I was looking at a few sites of various 'independent catholic' denominations, such as the Apostolic Catholic Church of America and the United Catholic Church, among others, and a couple sites claimed that the Vatican recognizes their apostolic succession. Does anyone here know if that is true? (Even if it is, they may soon lose it, as many of them seem to ordain women now). (There are apparently dozens, or even hundreds, of these 'independent catholic' denominations, but most of them seem to be very small...many of them seem to directly or indirectly trace back to the "Old Catholic" church movement triggered by the declaration of Papal Infallibility). (I just realized that some of them could have valid lines, while others would not...depending if a legit. bishop broke off with them, or if a valid, though schismatic, bishop ordained their leader...as one church I looked at claimed). Pio Nono
JMJ 5/5 - Fourth Wednesday of Easter twf, I don't know the specific ecclesial communions of which you speak (though I am rather familiar with the Old Catholic Church). However, recognition of orders by the Church (if she has actually done so) is nothing more than a statement of fact. Holy Mother Church is more than willing to admit that a small group of Lutherans in Denmark has retained apostolic succession; however, they're not members of the Catholic Church. I hope this helps. Yours, Pio Nono
