PhuturePriest
I am a bit surprised at only 6 hours sleep as St Teresa made it very clear that she wanted her nuns to have 7 hours sleep every night and a siesta during the day. hmmmm.
What can you expect from a Spaniard used to a daily siesta? Us tough Americans like to live on the edge. And no tea, either. Coffee only. Then again, we are famous for constantly being in wars... I have no clue how I'll make it with the Franciscan Brothers Minor. I read that they pray at twelve in the morning, and then wake up at six. I really, really hope that's a typo...
Hate to break it to you, but it's probably not But you'd probably get a couple hours sleep before having to rise at midnight, probably pray for an hour, and then get back up to six. Franciscans have been doing this for centuries. Edited January 16, 2012 by truthfinder
linnie
You know.........many people who are not in religious life do keep a similar schedule regarding sleeping and rising. I get up at 3:45 a.m. and am at work by 4:30. I work 12 to 13 hours as a nurse, then come home and maintain my household. Until a few years ago that included raising 4 sons. I go to bed at 9 p.m. I'm not saying that its easy but you do get used to it. on those rare times when I can sleep in, I'm usually up by 5 or 5:30. Its amazing what your body adjusts to given time and effort. blessings, Linnie
Sister Marie
We don't have a set time for rising or retiring - we just make sure we are at community prayers on time! Our sisters have a variety of apostolic commitments so while we do pray and eat together, personal prayer, rising, retiring, and so on are according to our own schedule. I wake up at 4:30 according to my own personal horarium, haha. It really isn't too bad and I really value the quiet, still morning hours for personal prayer before the activity of the day begins. It is my favorite time of the day. There are some sisters I know who are awake far before 4:30 though and still put in a full day of apostolic work... they are amazing to me! No one's died from it yet There's something awe-full about rising to pray in the middle of the night. Everything's dark outside. It's like the only thing that exists at the moment is God and the others in the church praying with you, yet the reason you get up is to pray for the world and to praise God, of course. InPersonaChriste
That was well put, I am praying that I can adapt to different schedules well. Last time I went on a retreat I got really sick and I ended up losing 10 pounds in 5 days... So I am a little worried that going on retreat will mess it up again. But I guess I wont be eating crappy teenager food in this retreat haha

She even made squash taste good! AND she used to be a cook for Disneyland. I still dream about the food. BTW, CAN you call a religious a wizard?
