Proper Ordering Of Self? (Trying To Get To Sleep)

So I was thinking (while awake, unable to sleep-insomnia moment...), about how we are supposed to work at the proper ordering of things-as in original justice- right relationship with God, then right relationship with others, with ourself, and with creation, etc.

Similar to how the will and intellect should (ideally), be working towards the proper order of telling my body what to do. Although I'm really tired and want to go to sleep, but my mind is too active at the moment.

So I was wondering that if we decide to fast, our will tells out body whats what, and that helps us in self control, to say no to some things helps us to say no to other things, etc,

...then I was thinking, how to work at telling my mind to slow down and go to sleep? The concept, Im sure would apply to the proper ordering of other things...

excuse the random thoughts.

Praying puts me to sleep..So whenever I am wired, I lay down and start to pray my Rosary. It does help,

Rosary works good for me as well. It's an opportunity to give the past worries ovr to the lord for a few minutes. Also try a natural supplement called melatonine. Target has it for like 6 bucks. It is the same thing that is in warm milk that puts people to sleep. I talk a 3 mg pill about 20 minutes before bed and it really helps.

I count to seven continually and very slowly - next thing its morning. Its habitual now. although I used to be a total insomniac.

the counting actually worked! I fell asleep quicker than usual, wohooooooooo. Although my mind 'tried' sometimes to think of other things, the counting helped to slow it down. What a relief-I will try to make this one of those good habits :) Thank you!

Happy indeed to read that you had success, Mary. It may not work for everyone and it started out for me as counting sheep over a fence - but I kept loosing count so developed counting to seven continually without the sheep. I am a confirmed believer that if it works and its not hurting self or another, go with what works. And inability to drift off to sleep I know from past experience can be a self fulfilling merry go round. One worries because one finds it difficult to get off to sleep, and so this stress as night falls will adversely affect the ability to fall asleep.
I hope you will have continued success and with a few successes, the stress at night starts to lessen.
