Would that mean that Mary's perpetual virginity doesn't mean eternal?

Regardless of the discipline of other Rites, it is moving toward becoming an essential element to priesthood in the Latin Rite.

jason, we agree w/ you! i don't think anyone here is denying the fact that a celibate priesthood is better

I think the difference is between dogma and discipline, but I didn't make that statement so I can't say for certain. I think, judging the Pope's recent statements on the matter, you are correct in predicting the direction the Magisterium is taking.

We all agree that celibacy is the normative, and best discipline for the priesthood in the Latin Rite. However, there are good reasons for giving the exception. This is all that Phat Phred was pointing out.
