dairygirl4u2c
i would argue, from a catholic perspective even, that it's okay for a catholic to legitimately think that euthanasia should be legal. the theory is that it's only wrong to actively endorse a grave sin, but 'allowing' for it to happen is not the same as actively assisting with its occurence. there's no laws that say it's okay, and no one is physically or otherwise assisting with the suicide. we don't ban all sins. hitting one's brother as a minor, or even as an adult, cursing in God's name or otherwise, not going to church, etc... all things that would be considered sinful, even mortal sins are included here. why is it that things that infringe upon one's liberty, such as suicide, or for argument's sake, sodomy, should be considered illegal, but those other things cannot be? CatherineM
If euthanasia was legal, I would be dead. Who decides when someone with Alzheimer's should go down? The person with dementia, or the people waiting around for their inheritance that is being eaten away by nursing home costs? My husband has serious issues with euthanasia because since he has schizophrenia, he'd be one of the first to go once the inevitable happens that the process goes from self-determining to die to society determining who should. GeorgiiMichael
Sins involving the termination of life are distinctly different from the other sins you mention. Using reason (your ability to make choices) to cease your reasoning ability or the reasoning ability of others is a gross misuse of your reason. That is why suicide (as a freely chosen act, not from major psychological distress caused by depression or other mental illnesses), murder, overindulgence in alcohol/drugs, and forcibly making others drink to oblivion or take mind altering drugs are seen as such despicable acts. MIKolbe
FWIW, I am in favor of euthanizing this thread.
