Sarah147
Hello, So, I just picked up one of these. It's wayyyy cheaper than the prepaid phone I was using. With this, I can get 500 minutes for $20, or 1000minutes for $30!!! Includes voicemail. Drawback is that the service is 30 days per card. I'll be saving a lot of money with this. I've read bad reviews about this phone company though, so I'm going to experiment for a while before deciding to switch over from my other phone. BTW, it includes a camera, IM, email, web. Any thoughts on this phone? Also, the main picture is a photo of a monument in France. How do I change it? Brother Adam
prices have been going way down on pre-paid plans. We use Virgin Mobile phones for $25 & $35 per month for unlimited web and text with 300 minutes a month.
Sarah147
I go through 120 minutes in no time at all, so I don't know how long 300 would last me. Plus, last I checked, the lowest rate for virgin was like $35 or so. Higher than I would like.
cmaD2006
In my area a lot of people use MetroPCS with no complaints. Their rates run much lower than Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T.
brianthephysicist
I've been using google voice. It's a free service that allows you to make unlimited local and long distance phone calls and texts from your computer to any American phone number and fairly cheap cost to call overseas. It also has free call and text forwarding. So I bought a $10 prepaid tracfone with a year of service and a $20 minute card (with 90 days of service) for emergencies and I have everything forwarded to my tracfone. When I get a call or text, I can look at it on my phone, then go over to the computer and call or send a reply, all for free. If I'm not near my computer and I think it's important, I can answer or reply from my phone and it will only cost me minutes against the prepaid card. But when I try to call a number, it won't do anything? Why is that? Also, where do I talk to make calls on a computer? Do I need a microphone? When I call from a computer, it shows up in my gmail window, but I think there are other google applications it could show up in as well. In order for it to ring in the gmail window, you have to download an add-on for your browser (I think it's called google talk) and you will get prompted to do this by clicking somewhere in the chat section in the sidebar on the left side of the gmail page. brianthephysicist
The calls are as clear as your internet connection. I have decent internet so my calls go through great, audio is better than skype, but I haven't tried the video yet.

I use this whole google voice thing like a corded home telephone, then have my cellphone as a glorified pager and an emergency backup.
