dUSt
In all seriousness, I think either phrase would work, "my child placed for adoption" -or- "my child who was adopted".
faithcecelia
Depending on how openly it is talked about and how detatched from it the mother now is, I don't think either 'the child' or 'the baby' would be inappropriate.
Adrestia
Informally, I've heard "biodad" & "biomom" used for biological parents who did not raise their child. I guess you could say "biochild," but it sounds horrible.
add
[quote name='Lil Red' timestamp='1325693801' post='2362774'] What do you call a child that someone in your family gave up for adoption many years ago? You call the parents who give them up "birth parents", you call the parents that adopt them "adoptive parents", but what do you call the child? IcePrincessKRS
I have cousins who are adopted, but only know of one person (for certain) who gave their child up. She called him her son, and I know she still was able to visit with him, but I don't know if he (at that time) was aware of their biological relationship. I think he may have called her aunt. I think it's one of those tricky things that also depends heavily on how the birth-mom refers to her child. I would probably just go the long way around it and say "the baby/child she gave up for adoption."
