crusader1234
Hey, Will I'm surprised you didnt mention St. Augustine. He basically thought God planted a seed from which everything grew. Basically, the seed would be the bang. And whenever theres a bang, theres someone there making the bang. You know what they say, where theres smoke, theres fire. hahaha
amarkich
The Big Bang Theory is incompatible with scientific laws. Science itself allows for contradictory beliefs. I will be glad to explain this if anyone is interested, but it is a lot to write (to disprove the Big Bang, using science, and to illustrate the contradictions of science which are apparently acceptable). God bless.
Crusader_4
Well every theory devolped by a human mind has its faults big bang is one of them but can we chose to believe it as Catholics without falling into doctrinal and moral error yes. Thanks Rich i knew that actually about St. Augi but i had forgot about it so thanx.
amarkich
That is actually a Modernist belief. It is incorrect to assume that the Big Bang is an acceptable belief since the Church teaches a different thing on the very same subject (this is different from other scientific theories such as the Quantam Theory or other scientific laws). God bless.
Aloysius
.... i'm sorry i misunderstand. the Church teaches absolutely nothing that contradicts the Big Bang. the Church teaches stuff that would contradict a godless Big Bang. but as i said before, i believe the Big Bang is a PROOF of the EXISTANCE OF GOD and by no means a disproof. i brought it up in my very first post: THE THEORY WAS DEVELOPED BY A PRIEST, and CRUSADER_4 brought it up as well! i believe in the Big Bang, and i believe that it is a vital proof against those who say that the universe has somehow always existed and escape the need of God that way. isn't that the way the eastern religions see it? well: here's our proof: EVERYTHING WAS CREATED! wahoo! nothing existed, and then it all existed. there is no contradiction whatsoever, even if you were some Bible fundamentalist i don't believe you even have a contradiction if you believe in the literal six day creation! Katholikos
The modern big bang theory originated with a twentieth-century Catholic priest, Father Georges Lemaitre. The "father of astrophysics" was a priest -- a Jesuit -- Father Angelo Secchi. He was the first to classify stars by their spectra. There are many Catholic scientists, some of whom are also priests. The Vatican has observatories in Rome and in Arizona, staffed by priest-astronomers (and a Jesuit Brother, Guy Consolmagno, who does great science and writes great books).
