I don't know much about it except that I want to see it. I've just started watching the LOTR trilogy in anticipation and I've finished the first two. I plan to watch Return of the King tonight. I'm so excited about another movie, especially since a lot of the characters will be played by the old actors. I'm going to miss Samwise, though, as he was one of my favorites. Merry and Pippin won't be involved either. But I'm glad Frodo will be.

One thing that boggles my mind is why Peter Jackson chose to do this movie after the trilogy instead of before if it tells the tale of Bilbo before the LOTR stories. I hope it is as good as the original trilogy. :)

I'd rather them take their time and have Peter Jackson do it right, then rush it and have it be a total mess.

Ummm, they didn't rush it, that's for sure! Took forever to get this project greenlit. I don't know the exact reason del Toro left before filming started, but the publicly announced reason was that he ran out of time to sit around doing nothing while they got the legalities squared away.

The Hobbit was published in the 1930s, and is thus the prelude to The Lord of the Rings (which was not published til the 1950s). I realize that, as far as the movies are concerned, this is a prequel.

You'll have to wait about a year for the movie. Deal.

Well, it's because LOTR is much more famous than The Hobbit, honestly. Even though everyone says that you need to read the Hobbit before you read the Lord of the Rings, many people don't. LOTR is much more action packed, and lends itself better to modern audiences. The Hobbit will be quite good, but it couldn't have come out before the LOTR trilogy, or it probably would have been a flub.

I'm sad that Aragorn won't be a part of this new movie either. Aragorn and Gandalf didn't meet until a few years before Aragorn (or "Strider") met the Hobbits in the Prancing Pony.

[/quote]Aragon is soooooo wonderful! I adorable his epic-ness! But I don't think that he should have married the elf... but that is just me.
