This ad confuses me. So there are Chinese armies in Texas because Ron Paul loves them?

Ash Wednesday

He always gives some interesting food for thought.

And I must give props on the good usage of typography. :smokey:

It was a little melodramatic for my taste, but I do agree with what was said. It aggravates me that people can possess a selfish nationalism to rationalize us military actions.

So we invaded Afghanistan because of US nationalism?

Yeah I think that you argue that we did. Or that at least the US nationalism led to the terrorism -- that led to us invading Afghanistan.

I don't think there is any basis for that factually. If we could identify the major forces that led to OBL deciding that he wanted to attack the World Trade Centers it would be probably our support for Israel in general and Israel's occupation in Lebanon in particular, and our stationing of troops in Saudi Arabia, which was intended to rebuff a Secular Arab Nationalist regime in Iraq from menacing the region and disrupting world oil supplies. I fail to see how either of these policies were spurred by US nationalism.

Nah, but that's what plenty of people use to justify and rationalize immoral actions taken by our military: "It's ok because we're America and we're the good guys so we're only looking out for the best of all mankind. So a few civilian Afghans and Iraqis get killed in the whole debacle, it's merely collateral damage and the good far outweighs the bad."

Huge difference from saying these things "caused" military campaigns. This is a fairly common attitude that people take, even religious people (which is more annoying) that has occurred after we start blowing poo up.

Interesting - I think we're already half-way there. China has its own bases and little cities all over the place, that are actually Chinese operated and don't fall under US jurisdiction. Just one of the prices we pay for all the money they're "loaning" us.
on US soil? say what? I mean, AFAIK, Chinatown isn't operated by the Chinese Gov't' and is indeed within the US's jurisdiction, lol. What exactly are you referring to?
