add
The perspective of people theSioux nation may see things differently. What we do know is that Father Pierre De Smet and Bishop Martin Marty were both Catholic apostles for the faith. They both brought the faith to the great plains of the newly opening American west. They baptized thousands, if not tens of thousands of Sioux. They were good, honest, holy men whom people like Sitting Bull trusted, even when he trusted no other white men. Many Sioux only trusted the white men in the black robes. It is why today there are many vibrant Catholic communities on many Sioux reservations across the Northern Plains. Well, it's not clear whether Sitting Bull was or was not Catholic, but what is certain is that the Lakota (Sioux nation) people are still living on the Rosebud reservation in South Dakota and are still ministered to by the "black robes" (a/k/a Jesuits).
