Hunger Games

Has anyone else read the Hunger Games?

I really enjoyed the first book. Though it was pretty gory I sort of relished the strategy and plotline. There was a rather lot of kissing, but again that was also strategic so that they would win sponsors (or at least for our main character). And it had a decent cliff-hanger.

Umm.. Trying not to spoil to much of it in case you are wanting to read this.

I love love love all three books. It's one of the best things to come to the Young Adult genre in a very long time. Though for a YA series, you're right, it is really violent.

As to the kissing ... eh. It's not like there was heat there. It's far from inappropriate.

I enjoy fighting action books...
Thank God that its not another Twilightish book.. Oddly enough I think my mom was more excited to read this series than I was.

My dd read THG and then was on the waiting list FOREVER for CF... then the library sent it to the wrong branch! (her mistake) :( We tried to get it straightened out, but she ended up at the end of the waiting list again. She asked for CF for Christmas, but I got her the whole series. Meanwhile, she got to the top of the library's list and read all of CF two days before Christmas. She was STILL really excited to get the boxed set, though, and cruised through MJ in about two days.

Why did they just recently become so popular? I read the trilogy over the span of a week this past summer. Actually, I discovered them just as Mockingjay came out. I was vacationing in Annapolis and had to buy it right then and there, ha.

Does the sudden popularity spike have to do with the movie?

Loved the books after Missy recommended them to me, I devoured them in no time flat because they were so engaging. I'm not looking forward to the movies though, they never live up to the books. :( Though I have to admit, I do like the shots they've released thus far.

I heard about it before the movie trailer was even announced.. But Yes.. the movie probably has something to do with it.

I just bought the first book yesterday. Mostly I'm curious to see what all the hype's about.
I think it looks interesting enough so far.

I think so. I hadn't read them last year, so I got them for Christmas in 2010. Harry Potter sales spiked after the movies (I think), and books like The Help were bought in preparation for the movies.

Many of my friends have recommended them, and some of my friends from my PALs class have an obsession post in our PALs group on Facebook. I joined in and they are like begging me to read them. Since I got a B&N nook for Christmas I'll get to reading them quite soon :smile2:
