Good Hobbies...

Reading books on prayer and on the Saints, especially St. Therese and St. Teresa of Avila. Maybe have a little reading club with friends, even online.

Put on some good 'ol jazzy music, like "In the Mood" and dance! Freestyle your version of theater/jazz/ballet!

Learn to sing Marian songs. I learned with the FI Sisters and they still come back to me like prayers. I love it!

Visit some orders and just become friends, and get an idea of what orders and Sisters are like.

Uno!!!!!!!!! :yahoo:

Learn the Divine Office prayers for the day.

Maybe you could do some volunteering somewhere you enjoy, like the veterinarian, nursing home, shelter, food pantry, Church, hospital, library, school, etc.

Go to Adoration with some homeschooler Catholics, and get together afterward for some fellowship and food!

Assist the younger kids at your Church if there is some sort of group or teaching time for them.

Learn to use some of your freetime to just be free and freely talk to God. Learn simple prayer from the heart if you haven't already.

Basilisa Marie

I just got back into crocheting. It's nice to do while watching tv or listening to music or something, plus you can make things for people. :)

Or writing or drawing. Those are really good things to get practice with when you're young. :)

For whatever reason, Tae Kwon Do seems to be one of the worst for McDojos. Not sure exactly what it is about it.

I always got the impression it was an Americanized art to begin with.

Thank you. I was going by the phonetic spelling. Should have looked it up.

Sewing keeps me sane.

It does the opposite to me. Nothing I ever sewed turned out the way it was supposed to.

Youth group definitely.

Or you could always take Fr. Tom Loya's idea and

I definitely would say doodling. I've had an ongoing series since I was 5. Wow I'm old... :|

Also seconding running as a good way to pray and exercise. Going nutty here at home without a place to walk for an hour every couple of days.

...I totally have been misreading your name for months as I <3 SLOP instead of I<3LSOP.

well, mine not that they would apply too much would be guitar, motorcycles, mtn biking, guns and shooting, knife making, woodwork, volunteer firefighter, etc etc.

i would recommend getting a nice little pellet gun (not a bb gun) and taking up marksmanship :) its a good skill and its super fun and can be quite cheap!

  • 1 month later...

Woops I abandoned this thread. :paperbag:

So I am going to try knitting and crocheting and see which one I like best. Running and walking is avvesome. Actually, this morning early...when the stars were still visible I went on a power walk and said my Rosary while doing it.

I have taken up my ballet again.... I could not stand not dancing! It was good to take a break from it... but I missed “flying” through the air in a split jump and feeling light on my feet.

I had not remembered seeing the suggestion of writing letters, I love writing letters! I write them to a friend in college, a postulant I know, and my favorite Sister/nun who was transferred from our home... I have not been written back... but that is okay because all of them are busy. When I asked Sister if she had gotten my letter she said yes... and she wanted to go over it. Oh dear... it’s probably because I asked her if they are turning her into a Yankees fan in Queens... I hope. *cough*

I am thinking of whittling... I mean it is a bit boyish... but I have always loved how you can make something out of a block of wood. Also, my uncle works in the lumber business so it makes it even easier to get really nice wood.

I love baking! I do it all of the time and nobody seems to mind. I could improve on my cooking however... and tomorrow I will be making a New Orleans style meal!

Thank you all for the suggestions, I read through them again today and came up with more stuff. :)

I would say that as much as you like violin, maybe you can compose some music or try transposing. It keeps your mind quite active. But, for a 12 year old, I would say try a Youth Group, Learn some home-making skills. I certainly wished I had when I was your age and am trying to catch up to that now.Embrordariy or sewing on top of patterns is also a nice skill to have. Learn some cooking and just be yourself
