There's little doubt that Kim was deranged but it's hard to know which of the more insane claims originate from North Korea and which originated with South Korea's intelligence agencies

Alas, it's still a fun read.

That's North Korea TV. Very hard to tell what is real and what is not.

If its not real, all the more reason to feel for those people.

I've watched that National Geographic documentary on NK and it's really quite interesting. At one point, Lisa Ling follows a Napalese ophthomologist who is in NK doing humanitarian work. He does simple eye surgeries which restores their sight... he did dozens, if not hundreds of them. And every time someone's bandages were removed, they wept with gratitude at Kim Jong Il and fell to the floor. It was like watching Benny Hinn (with a portrait of KJI as Hinn)....

I've watched quite a few documentaries on North Korea (facinated with the subject, I guess) on Netflix. They have quite a few... One about two little girls who were preparing for the mass games.... an American who defected to NK, etc. All very interesting.

This is funny and true!

North Korea is mad that South Korea put up a giant Christmas tree again on the border. In response, South Korea is putting up two more.

Um.... lemme see... It was the early 60s. The guy was in the US Army, stationed at the DMZ. He came from a bad (unloved) background, and his wife had cheated on him/left him during his first tour of duty... One day he was just ticked off at his CO and he crossed over. He was the second person to do so. Eventually, two others did the same. So there were these four American defectors who were sort of celebraties in NK. They had acting careers in NK propaganda films (playing the evil westerners). It's speculated that the government kidnapped a white wife for him from Eastern Europe, but he never knew for sure where she came from. He had this whole family of white North Korean kids who were members of the Party. His second wife was Korean. Eventually, two of the American defectors died and the two who were left hated each other. But they hung out together because, well, they were the last two. The second guy's wife was Japanese (kidnapped), and they eventually made their way back to Japan. The first guy called him a trader. It's pretty interesting. I think it was called "Crossing the Line."
