fides' Jack
I think dismissing anti-yogans and anti-harrypottiers (edit: huh - um, no pun intended...) as scrupulous lacks prudence. Edited December 16, 2011 by fides' Jack

Nihil Obstat
I see no blind dismissal of contrary viewpoints here. At least not in the posts that I bothered to read, and I did skip a few because I'm misanthropic and a rebellious bad*** like that. fides' Jack
I'm sorry; I didn't mean to suggest that there was a blind dismissal currently in progress. I just wanted to throw that out there, because I have seen legitimate arguments about controversial issues slammed as "scrupulous" before on the forums here, and then subsequently ignored. I did not want that to happen in this thread. I'm not saying that's happening now, I'm just saying that when that word starts getting thrown around, it becomes very easy to slip into that. I agree with your statement, though. It takes a mature person to read from people like Fr. Amorth. Just like it takes an even more spiritually mature person to read from St. John of the Cross (and probably only then with a spiritual director handy). dominicansoul
I've always been in the habit to pray to the Holy Spirit before reading any book that may affect me in some way. I agree with Lil Red, scrupulous people should stay clear of Fr. Amorth, and also people who tend to get a severe case of the "heebie jeebies..." Nihil Obstat
The prayers he includes at the end of his books are excellent. Great cure for the heebie jeebies.
