Laudate_Dominum
I agree, L_D, but taking it from this comedian's point of view, it seems those traditional externals were all he paid attention to, and he totally missed the point of what the Mass is totally about... It has been tough since, how do you call it, the "decomposition" of the Mass after Vatican II ...and most of us faithful Catholics have had to endure soooo much abuses... but the reason we stay is not because we looooooooove those abuses, it is because we are absolutely in love with Jesus Christ, who is the Center of the Holy Mass, and far above any and all externals....
I see what you're saying. I should have tempered my response as I didn't mean to hiss at you personally.

I thought that was impossible?
LIAR!! Sarah147
Wow. I didn't know he was Catholic. I get the sense that there is more behind his not going to Church than the changes. He could look around for a reverent Church. Maybe hollywood is pulling him in the wrong direction. Edited December 8, 2011 by JoyfulLife
Well technically he is Catholic he just doesn't live it. I was really impressed at the beginning of the conversation. I got all excited and then..... It is too bad he left the church. And there are churches that have relatively normal Masses in LA. I have been to a few. I think he didn't try hard enough, but with all that pressure of Hollywood he probably did not have anyone helping him stay true to his faith. I guess all we can do is pray. Lil Red
A long fallen away Catholic not understanding the scandalous decomposition of the liturgy? Your statement is ironic considering that such hackneyed Masses were so often "justified" in terms of outreach to those of little faith. Anyway, in my experience the gravity and grandeur of authentic liturgy is relevant and genuinely didactic in a way that contrived pop-Masses of the "reform" era cannot be.
you made me look that word up.
