Believe it or not I can do both at once.

I say grow a beard only for specific purposes:

1. If you've got a weak chin - a beard hides it;
2. If you've got bad skin - a beard hides it;
3. If a beard makes you look distinguished, and looking distinguished is important in your field... say, physics or something;
4. If you're dressing up on Halloween as a pirate.

Otherwise, shave.

There is never a bad time to look more distinguished than you already do!
Added benefit, for me at least: I almost never get carded at liquor stores or bars. Saves me a good five to ten seconds of rooting through my wallet to get my drivers' license. It's tucked away in a less convenient pocket.

keep the beard but keep it neatly trimmed, like Tsar Nicholas II. I used to have a beard that stretched halfway to my bellybutton but it became too much of a bother to look after.

Ironically enough, I hardly ever get carded when I'm clean shaven, but usually do whenever I have facial hair.

Hmm....dead even at 5 and 5. but theres a couple people voting for other variations on facial hair too. I doubt I'll ever be able to get to as epic of a beard as czar nicholas II, but I think I'll keep the beard for the time being. I'll see what happens, and revisit this often over the next couple of weeks (plus, parents might ask me to shave for Christmas)

Staretz is right, I need to learn how to keep it trim. Last time I had a ton of facial hair, it was kind of all over the place and Missy probably wouldn't appreciate that very much.

Sounds good to me. Also worth considering: are you ministering for Christmas, and does that matter to you?
