MIKolbe Posted December 2, 2011 Author Share Posted December 2, 2011 After you spend 2 months working on your catalogs, and after you have a coronary trying to upload them to the printer.....and after you get your color proofs and blue lines, and after you make corrections to the color proof and blue lines, you then go 'on press' and get your stuff printed. They print a 'signature' at a time. On this press a signature is 16 pages (8 front and back). You go to the printer while they start printing a signature... then they take a sample and show it to you. They 'marry' it up with the corresponding color proof, and you check for color.... sometimes your blues may have too much magenta and turn out looking more purple, sometimes something silver can look dindgy if there is too much black or yellow in it.... then, after you give the ok, you sign the 'signature', and they print from there they # of copies you need (in my case 95,000) from there. Then you wait until they are done with THAT signature, take it off press, put a new signature on press, and do the whole thing over again. There is about a 2.5 hour wait in between signatures. I had one at 8, 10:30, 1:30, and will have one @ 4:15.... then all day tomorrow.... Then THAT catalog is done. The second one is Tues/Wed on the press.
