Totus, people are also saying magnesium taurate is great on migraines. It's natural and a safe try. :smile2:

I appreciate that but I'll stick with what I already know works. My doctor has never recommended that to me, so I generally don't take anything that he doesn't prescribe. I've spent a lot of wasted money on supplements that did not work, unfortunately :(

I know different doctors will probably say different things about taking pain killers frequently. I have chronic migraines and used to take Excedrin or Immitrex every single day. I talked to my doctor about my concern of ruining my liver with all the meds, and he told me that it really was not something to be concerned about. I trust him, but I was still uncomfortable taking them so much. I had to, though, because having a migraine every day I could not function with life. However, praise God, the migraines let up little by little and now I only get them every week or so. I think that your pain is probably temporary, if you're planning to see a specialist, so while I'm no doctor, I think my doc would tell you not to worry about taking the pain meds so frequently.

I'm glad to hear that your migraines are better. I have had fewer and fewer migraines as I've aged. It seemed like they peaked when I was 25 and have gotten better (in terms of frequency, not severity) ever since. I also appreciate your advice about the pain medication. I love my friends but as we are all high functioning neurotics there is a tendency to freak out over every little thing. The massage therapist really helped with pain management and I'm going to continue to take advil at night to sleep and pray. I'm blessed to have excellent health for the most part. I'll probably smell of elderberries it up over the next few months and go see someone. I need to have some dental work done and I need to get a regular physician in whatever city I settle down in. I really appreciate the advice, y'all.

Four days ago I went to the health food store and decided to try 2 natural remedies for tmjd that I have learned about on the web: kava kava (for muscle relation) and magnesium. First I tried the kava kava. It did relax my muscles and my tmj losened and felt great but it wore off after 4 hours and is too toxic to the liver to take more than once or twice a day. Slowly the spastic muscle pain was getting worse and I figured i'd have to resort to advil again after I ate something. At dinner I took my usual vitamins including calcium, vit e, vit c, etc. The only difference was that I added 300mg of chelated magnesium. I got busy with something on the computer so I didn't take the advil right after dinner. As I sat there at the computer (something that usually worsens tmj pain) I felt my jaw muscles relaxing. The pain was literally melting away! I thought to myself, "did I take the advil?". I couldn't believe it but the magnesium worked that fast! It has been 4 days now and I have been tmj pain free! Even the tense muscles of my neck and shoulders is gone! I had toast for breakfast instead of my usual oatmeal (i'm so sick of oatmeal!) I take 100mg at each meal and then 200mg before bed. I keet saying to my husband, "it feels so good to not have pain!" the pain is not just dulled, it's gone!
I am just so shocked that something so simple has helped me so much. It's wonderful to know that this is something that will not hurt my body, rather something that is actually beneficial to my body.

Massage therapy is wonderful! My migraines peaked from 21-23, which were also the most stressful years of my life so far, and I think that has a lot to do with it. My chiropractor was amazing because while the actual chiropractic therapy didn't help that much, she actually taught me stress management (more like a psychological therapist than a chiropractor!) every time I went in for my appointments. I attribute my healing to her advice, because I started managing my stress and got much better. I don't, however, know how people find outlets for their stress without having God. Exercise and a lot of other things helped me, but I think the biggest thing was just surrendering everything to him constantly every day. I don't know what I would have done with my stress if I couldn't give it to him...
