MissScripture
It's got a strong flavor, but I think it will work well. I made a loaf of bread and a pan of buns. The buns spread out, more than up, like I'd hoped, but they'll work.
MissScripture
It's true. I have seen him. MS, I hope it comes out good b/c that bread makes great toast.
You're right. It makes the best toast and the BEST grilled cheese! It has become the only bread we use. I make two loaves every week. When we went to my parents' house for Roamin's job training, it was weird eating other bread. It seemed so light, like there was nothing to it. I still am not a huge fan of it in plain sandwiches, so I typically toast it, but I love toast, so it works. Tonight, I might try making these: http://neatstuff.info/sugar-free-spicy-oatmeal-cookies And I am really excited because I found some no-sugar-added cakes, so I want to make one for John Paul for his feast day in October! I could never master Easy Mac when I was in college. Also, the key to rice is to not bug it too much. That makes it mad and sticky.
The problem I had was that I thought it would be cool to try to do it in a double boiler. Except I don't have one. So I did the double pot trick, putting one pot with rice and a little bit of water inside a bigger pot of boiling water. The big pot's water was boiling away too fast so I had to get another pot and heat up water to add to the big pot. Most of the times I did this, I also got more water into the pot with the rice. About 40 minutes after it should have been done I tried draining the water through the lid and then set it on the stove on low heat and without the lid waiting for it to evaporate away. Another 30 minutes and I had burnt rice the consistency of soupy mashed potatoes. I'll try to make rice a different way in another week or so, but I definitely failed this time. MissScripture
Oh, I just add twice as much water as rice, put it all in the pan, put the lid on, bring it to a boil and leave the lid on no matter what. I typically boil over, but when it starts doing that, I just lift it off the burner until it's simmered down a bit and put it down again. And when it looks like the water has all been absorbed, I take it off the heat and stir it and let it sit for a couple minutes. It still has a little bit of stickiness in the pan, but it doesn't leave a layer of rice stuck to the bottom like I used to have when I would try stirring during the cooking process or when I'd take the lid off while it was cooking. MissScripture
Today, I made sourdough crackers. YUM! That recipe will be revisted. They tasted like Cheez-Its without the cheese, if that makes any sense...
