sixpence
Technically you can also use the Kyrie for the Penitential Rite, although in my opinion that's a rather bad option.
We used the Kyrie on Saturday
Actually the Kyrie is a required part of the Penetential Rite. It is an option to use only the Kyrie, but the Kyrie must be included. You can't use the Confiteor and omit the Kyrie for example. It would be the Confiteor followed by the "may Almighty God have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life (old translation, not sure if it changed)" followed by the Kyrie. Papist
Our diocese released a nice little set of cards to keep in the pews. I don't know if it helped or not because I haven't attended, but it's a good idea in any case.
Ours did the same. Was able to review every week. I'm thinking of buying my own missal. The C&Eers are in for a surprise this Christmas Mass.

Socrates
I'm not trying to find fault. Really. It's just that the English-speaking world speaks, well, English, not Latin. If "one in being" doesn't get it done in English it terms of conveying an important theological meaning, then say, "of the same substance." What I'm suggesting is that an important truth is going to be lost for many people because who knows what "consubstantial" means?
Nihil probably did a better job answering this than I would. 40-odd years of "dumbing down" the mass in every possible way to make it "more accessible" has in reality done very little to increase "Average Joe Catholic's" understanding and practice of the Faith.
