The Church is infallible, but I am finding that as I grow as a Catholic, that priests are very fallible. I once heard a priest call Jesus, "Mr. Peace." He said, "You know, like Mr. Coffee, only instead of Coffee, he gives us peace."

Things are getting better in the Church. You are coming into the faith at a good time. In the short time I've been Catholic I have learned that the Church is recovering quite a bit that had been presumed lost. It is getting better everyday.

Today is a good day to be in communion with the Holy See. :)

Yeah, he's like "Devotion to Mary is absolutely central and essential to our salvation". I'm thinking "Mariam devotion is important and certianly should not be neglected by those who understand Mary's role. But I would say that it is baptism that is "central and essential to our salvation moreso than Mariam devotion. One can live life without being devoted to the Blessed Virgin and still receive grace enough to enter heaven.
... I was wondering what you were thinking during the homily and May crowning... lol Doesn't it figure that at your first "official" Sunday Mass since deciding to reconcile its the May crowning, honoring Mary (which is probably one of the hardest things, aside from the True Presence, for non-Catholics to come to terms with).
The thoughts that went through my head during Mass.

Ok...I know why they do that (the holy water to cleanse you as you enter to be before God's holiness), hmm...I wonder who that is? (Looking up at the picture of St. Peter, Jesus, and Pope John Paul II)

Hmm...that's interesting, I haven't seen that yet (the walk down the aisle with the incense and the crown). I wonder if it's someone's first communion? Naw...they'd be wearing white dresses. That's a pretty headpiece, though.

(Crowning of Mary), that's interesting. Where'd that head piece go? Oh! There it is. (Moving the statue) wonder why they're doing that, probably so that they can have more room.

(Scripture reading): Hey! I know those verses! They are very good verses!

(The homily): Never thought about it that way before.

(Right before everyone kneels): Don't they usually kneel about now? I could've sworn that they did!

(People kneel): Oh! There they go! Is Adam going to kneel, cause if he does, I will.

(The Eucharist): Well...I definitely can't take that yet! Should I step out and back one, or should I just stay and move my knees so people can pass? Hmm...Adam's not moving, so I'll just move my knees.

I was mainly trying to observe and see how things were done, and tried very hard to remember why things were done. Part of the time I was thinking, awwwww, Adrienne looks sooooooooooo cute!!!

Perhaps it is not that you have suffered one to the Catholic Church's notoriously bad homilies. Maybe you haven't acclimated yet. When I first converted it bothered me to see statues of Mary in central locations in the church, where I deemed a crucifix should be. I see in retrospect that Marian devotion, and perhaps devotion to the Holy Family, are indeed central to the faith, though of course not the center of the faith. It took me a long time just to see how effective, deeply spiritual, and beautiful Marian prayer is. And I have heard Mary dismissed by a priest!

Devotion to Mary is central to the Faith because she the Mother of the Church, the Queen of Heaven, the Queen of the Angels, the Virgin of Virgins, and the Refuge of Sinners. Devotion to Mary is essential to our salvation because she is the Mother of the Church, &c., and you can't be Catholic without acknowledging
Mary's role is salvation history (past, present and future history).

I will keep you in my prayers.

EDIT: I read something interesting today in my Handbook of Prayers (awesome book!) Mary is the Daughter of God the Father, she is the Mother of God the Son, and she is the Spouse of God the Holy Spirit. If the Trinity is central to the Faith, how can Mary not be?

You have a good point, and I guess that is what bothered me is that I was thinking in terms of Mariam devotion being the center of salvation, instead of seeing "central" in its proper place. :)

lol Next time, kneel if you want to, its ok--maybe if you kneel first Adam will kneel too. ;) Since you're going to be officially Catholics in just under a year you may as well get in the habit of participating in Mass by kneeling and saying the prayers adn repsonses.

And when people are getting out of the pew, do whatever is easiest and most comfortable, be it getting up to let them out, or just moving a little so they can get past.

I always observe the windows and things in parishes I've never been to, too. lol

Ok.....

It's sooo weird to think that I'm going to be Catholic! What's even weider to think is that I'm excited about becoming Catholic!!!

I think Catholic churches are sooo beautfiul! I'll admit, though...in the beginning I thought that Catholic churches were scarey, with all the paintings and statues, but now it's just wonderful and wonderful to be there!

So...Katie...are you trying to tell me to be a leader, not a follower? ;)

Yes, but Matt is trying to do the same thing, so maybe you two should work together... He's already told a couple of his brothers what countries they'll be in charge of....
