Our society started down the toilet when they started making maternity wedding gowns, especially white ones.

How many women who wear white at their weddings are really qualified to do so these days? At least with a pregnant bride, one knows she isn't wearing white as a symbol of virginity. And since she's pregnant, it's probably a good thing that she's getting married - hopefully to the father of the child!

Basilisa Marie

Wearing white at a wedding is a pretty modern invention. Before it usually was just your best dress. It was only in Victorian times that a white dress became standard only because everyone copied Queen Victoria's white wedding dress, and then after that it suddenly was thought to be a symbol of virginity. Which doesn't make any sense because blue was the traditional Christian color of purity.

Although it would be nice if people actually had some deference to couples that didn't live together before marriage and the like, in reality those couples that do all of those immoral things usually have the most lavish weddings. I think it'd be more accurate to say that society started going downhill when everyone decided that they needed to get a pre-nup.
