LaPetiteSoeur
Anyone remember "Children of God?" "CHildren of God, in one family; loved by God in one family." EVERY. SINGLE. First Friday Mass in Catholic elementary school. That is my only bad memory of Catholic School.
dominicansoul
Yeah, I remember it too...... And now I have another song I will have stuck in my head all day (maybe going to the Polish mass will counteract it).
PAN Z WAMI!!! (absolutely looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove the Polish Mass...)
AccountDeleted
You youngins may scoff, but it was an extremely big hit when it came out and because it was catchy lots of people sang it along with the radio( yes radio) and were praising God without even knowing it. I always thought stuff like this was one of the Holy Spirit's gentle little prods. And yes we sang it in church and yes the congregations loved it.
I like the song and would listen to it on a CD of praise and worship songs. I don't like the songs at Mass to be too jazzy though as it seems to take away from the focus of reverence that I personally prefer. Our parish seems to really like weird and wonderful songs that I wouldn't mind in another environment but really hate at Mass. Sometimes I feel as if our local Mass has just become too 'pop culture' for me. I have no options as I live in a country town with one priest across four parishes and I am very grateful for his presence, but sometimes I wish he were more of the old fashioned traditional priest but he actually loves all this stuff. *sigh*
Nihil Obstat
Not really appropriate for Mass in any way, although in terms of the music itself minus the woman's voice it's something I might listen to in an entirely secular context. Reminds me of the Byds or something along those lines.
Lisa
So, I googled this. According to Wikipedia, it was in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. That means a lot of people heard the Lord's Prayer who might not have been exposed to it before. Yay for that. I might die if I heard it in Mass, though. missionseeker
Here's another one you probably won't like. It's a Jamaican (I think) folk version. To my way of thinking, it's still the Lord's Prayer, and singing is still praying twice. I hum it when I'm doing certain kinds of mindless work. But since I don't have a very good voice, I guess I shouldn't sing at all since My Father won't like it. Better I should sit back and let other people pray-sing for me. God created a voice that He can't stand, so I should sit in church like a lump on a pew.
Vincent Vega
When in doubt, sing the alto line. It never strays more than a major third from where it started.
