tnsmittenkitten
I have a hard time with this: I will not feel convicted at times after commiting sin, be it mortal or venial, so I put off going to confession until I do feel convicted. I fear making a confession without being trylu sorry for my sins. I know this may be totally wrong when looking at things, and I continue to pray, and never failingly become incredibly convicted and go to confession...eventually. What can I do to prevent this situation, other than not sinning? Should I continue to wait, or go to confession even I do not have remorse? Theologian in Training
If by "convicted" you mean that you do not feel guilty for the sin committed, you should then first be sure that you have actually committed a mortal sin, or that what you have done was a sin at all. If what you have done is a sin, then in order to feel compunction for those sins, the best thing for you to do would be to spend time mediating on a crucifix, and to think about the nails driven into each part of Christ's hands and feet. Think of someone close to you, whom you love, and then picture them being inflicted with the same amout of pain. Would you wish that pain upon that person, would you be content seeing that person in that amount of pain? Then start to think how it was you who caused that pain and it was you who drove the nails into their hands and feet. Sin never happens in a vacuum, and though you may not feel the pain it has caused, be assured that it could have been the sin that caused Jesus to fall the third time. You really should have some remorse for the sin committed, and if you do not feel that you should at least approach the confessional with the intention of never committing that sin again. You sin is not striclty yours, but effects the entire Body of Christ, it is how the Body is lifted up or brought down, for if one falls, we all fall, and when one perseveres we too will be strengthened by that perseverance.
