Maccabeus
I've dated her for eight years and she converted to Catholicism from her own free will in the past 2 years, She's truly a great wife, we got married close to half a year ago, BUT she's got a stubborn nature, were she still believes in contraceptives. I've fought her ways with fury many times, made her cry many times. We're divided on this topic. How can I go to Confession over and Over, when I'll be asked to partake in her ways again, & again ??? The Lord has always been before me, and she has always been behind me, I will never make the switch.
CatherineM
First off, you can't actively participate in her contracepting. You may not be able to prevent her from taking the pill for example, but you can refuse to use a condom, or to pick up her prescriptions. Next, you need to make an appointment to discuss the issue with you priest. She may refuse to go because she is not going to want to be exposed that way. As an alternative, ask her to attend NFP sessions with you instead. Maybe if she goes and gets really informed about how NFP works, then she may come around. It can also be a wonderful bonding experience. I've known of a husband who got his wife to agree to go to NFP, and while she continued to use the pill, it allowed her husband to abstain from relations while she was in her fertile period. It was a strange compromise, but kept their marriage from breaking up. This is a difficult issue, and one that divides many marriages. I have known of a few people who have refused to have marital relations with their spouse so long as the contraception continues. That can be a difficult path, and can seriously strain a marriage, but it can also bring home the point to the contracepting spouse as to how important the issue is. Sometimes they truthfully don't think it is a big deal.
