organwerke
Today I wanted to go to mass in a village which is about 70 km far from my home, there is an ancient medieval church and I was interested in visiting it. Besides this, the Mass was celebrated in EF and I was interested in it too. Unfortunately I wasn't able to foresee the time I would have spent to reach the place and so I arrived during the homily. Is my obbligation fulfilled or have I to confess this before receiving communion next time (I didn't receive Communion at mass today)? Thanks
Brother Adam
God does not expect the impossible. Your intention was to go to Mass and to be on time. Even if you missed it all together you would have not sinned. You did not give consent to missing Mass or a significant portion of Mass. While you did not fully fulfill your obligation to assist at Mass, you are not culpable for circumstances outside of your control.
