BG45
I just finished walking the cemetery where I exercise, spent time trying to go grave to grave of many of the veterans, praying for those who had died doing their duty especially. One was only four years older than I when he died in the line of duty in 2003. I found one grave I'd never seen before, with an epitaph paraphrased from memory here, "Died at Chapin's Bluff VA, one day prior to his discharge". Jesus_lol
The veteran im honouring is my grandpa, who was actually conscripted from Austria into fighting for germany. he drove tanks, was shot twice, captured as an american POW(thankfully) and enlisted as a translator because he spoke fluent german and english. He later married my english grandma, and moved to canada. he has spent the last 60 odd years learning as much as he could about the war, like most german soldiers, he had very little idea of the real horrors of nazi germany, and has a deep sense of betrayal. Cyprian
My father is s WW2 Veteran. He served in the South Pacific and his remembrances of those years are truly amazing. He has described how Mass was served right there in the fields.
BG45
wow, BG
Yeah, it put that frequent TV joke about "I was only one week away from retirement" into a far less funny contrast heh.
