BG45
I've noticed on FB, a lot of people I know who are the first to demand a Catholic Bishop who might have known about sexual abuse be lynched are amongst the strongest supporters of Paterno following his firing alongside President Spanier. homeschoolmom
I assumed there already was a thread, but I'd just missed it. It's all over the news-- hard to miss it.
Basilisa Marie
At least people recognize that fulfilling one's legal obligation of reporting suspected abuse to one's superiors isn't enough when those superiors just give the accused a slap on the wrist. Brother Adam
It seems that for once an organization is facing the same backlash as the Church where people are guilty until proven innocent. To fire JoePa or the president seems overboard as a PR fix, and will probably do more harm than good in the long run.

got2luvjc
it doesn't seem like there's much to say ... I don't imagine there's anyone on PM who thinks "they did the right thing by being silent" ... I dunno ...
Vincent Vega
Also, I think it's a little funny that people scream "arrest the Pope!" any time the media mentions the abuse scandal within the Church, yet the call the response of letting go of the president/Joepa brash or "overkill". XIX
Also, I think it's a little funny that people scream "arrest the Pope!" any time the media mentions the abuse scandal within the Church, yet the call the response of letting go of the president/Joepa brash or "overkill".
Are you saying that because some people were hideously misinformed about the scandal within the Catholic Church, that now, nobody is allowed to support Paterno? There's a credible case to be made that Paterno did everything he could do. I don't necessarily agree with that, but I do agree with the larger point--which is that there almost no information about his involvement. So we really have no facts with which to condemn Paterno, besides the fact that he went to the University Police instead of the State Police. I'm going to assume the best about him until some actual facts come out that tells me otherwise. We should all be acutely aware of the dangers involved with rushing to judgment.
