I'm just interested in your thoughts :)

If you made the Total Consecration according to St Louis de Montfort... would you get the "little chain" or other True Devotion jewellery even if there's a possibility that - if you become a nun, you would only be able to wear it temporarily? I'm asking because it seems to be something you wear for the rest of your life, but would you still choose to wear it for a while? Is it wrong to get something like that if you know there's a possibility you might not wear it for your whole life? (I realize that the Consecration would still last forever). What would you do with it afterwards, if you're entering a convent, - and would would you do with other sacramentals? (crucifix that you wear, miraculous medal, etc.. can you still wear that?).

I don't know much about how this works so that's why I'm asking.

thank you :)

I had to take my crucifix off, I kept it in my cell. When I was told I had to leave I put it straight back on when I went and changed out of my habit, before I made any phone calls etc.

Could you keep things like that as a nun if you've made final vows? I always wonder what people do with sacramentals :)

I would have been able to keep it. Actually, I would probably have been allowed to wear it once professed - some sisters had such items that they wore under their habits.

thanks for the reply! :)

I'm thinking of getting the ring mentioned in "True Devotion" jewellery thread... I'm guessing that it might not be possible to wear a ring because it wouldn't be hidden. I don't know. I don't even know if I'll be a nun. But I can't decide whether to get the ring or not, lol. What would others do in this situation?

You could always wear the ring on a chain or cord around your neck if you were permitted to do so under your habit. Or you could wear a chain and miraculous medal instead?

I was given the True Devotion ring by my CRHP sister. I still need to get it sized because it is a size smaller than I need it. I will probably bring it with me to the convent and wear it at night or something. I wish I could wear my beloved Miraculous Medal, as well. If I enter, I will ask what I can bring or not. ;)

You don't know what the future holds. Get the ring and wear it. I wear a ring from my private vows. As faith said, private jewelry can be worn as a postulant (I used to wear my crucifix). At clothing, you could keep it with your private belongings or wear it under your habit.

I agree that you should get it. In my former community, you probably would not be permitted to wear it on your finger, but you'd be able to wear it on a chain or attached to a pin under your habit.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your former community?

She has it posted on her profile, but I'll post it here. The Sister Servants of the Eternal Word.

thanks for the replies! :) I think I'll get the ring because I think it could help me to remember the Total Consecration. My difficulty has been keeping it in mind. I suppose if I become a nun, I could just wear it on a chain as a necklace or keep it in my private belongings. And if I don't become a nun, well then I'll just wear it.

I actually used to think that nuns couldn't have any private belongings, not a family photograph, or a sacramental, etc. After being at this forum I realized my idea wasn't very accurate. :)

I thought that, too, but I have learned different as well. Of course, it depends on the community. Some even allow you to bring blow dryers or flat irons with you to the convent. I'm planning to ask permission to bring my CHI iron to the convent because I have VERY frizzy hair that gets unruly if I don't iron it.
