My Novel

Byzantine

Recommended Posts

I'm writing a novel for NaNoWriMo, and I've got a question:

One of the themes I want in the novel is duty, more specifically doing one's duty over seeking personal happiness, however lawful said happiness might otherwise be. To that end, I want to include a female character who would be a distraction for the main character. It would be a perfectly chaste relationship (side question: if they became traveling companions and slept in the same campsite as each other, would that be problematic?). My concern is the temptations that may arise in my mind (I've had many sins involving lust in my past). So, what should I do? Use this as an exercise to strengthen my grip on my imagination, or avoid the temptation?

Thanks!

The near occasion of sin thing is between you and your confessor, but if you're worried about crossing some line by having them sleeping in the same campsite, you need to read some Flannery O'Connor.

Byzantine, go read the Bad Catholic Blog. Better yet I'll link you up.

Warning, these posts were/are a little controversial, but well worth the read. Especially for anyone who struggles/has struggled with lust:
