Lil Red
At Mass, if your priest tells the parish to do something, like not to genuflect before receiving the Eucharist, are you bound to do so, though you feel compelled to genuflect? Note: the Bishop hasn't said to not genuflect, just that the norm is to make a profound bow. The priest made the distinction of saying to not genuflect. so do I owe my obedience to the priest or do I follow what my conscience tells me to do? Theoketos
We should strive to obedient to our priests, especially in liturgical matters. (This is partly so that if we have to act on our conscience it will mean more.) Catholic priests act in the Person of Christ. In this case you ought to listen to your priest. Keep in mind that the norm is either to stand and receive with a profound bow OR even better to receive kneeling. Genuflecting before receiving is a halfway in between thing which might rightly be discouraged as a safety issue.
