I'd totally be doing a meltdown; but if the syllabus says he accepts late work for a reduced grade, go to the department chair with the e-mail exchange and the syllabus. The syllabus is there not only to cover his butt, but also to cover you in the event he decides to change his mind on something. (That said, is there a line anywhere on it that says, "Information on this syllabus may be changed at the discretion of the professor" or similar?)

Nope, there isn't. Fortunately though, my advisor/department chair/boss (same person) is pretty much on my side. Good thing she loves me.

I also talked to my boss/advisor/dept. chair a bit ago. She said if he still said no, that she'll make sure it happens.

Woot! Personally, I hate to make profs mad, but you were in the right and it was the difference between pass/fail, so glad it got taken care of!

thanks! i simply brought him into a room, asked if i could restate my position and then i did. oh, and another girl had tried to get him to takes hers too, but he didn't. she was ~mad~ when she found out i did.
