Brother Adam
I'm just sitting on my porch with my wife handing out candy. We've had about 500 trick or treaters in 75 minutes (most of the houses around us already ran out, we are close to running out). A 5 year old little girl walks up to me and gives me a rock.
dominicansoul
I have no candy, I told my dad, if we get any trick or treaters, I'll have to pass out beer, cos that's all we have!

homeschoolmom
We did not have nearly the number I anticipated-- but then again, I always guess wrong. (I bought 8-9 small bags of candy bars-- I have half left.) It's always hit or miss here depending on the weather and the day of the week-- warm Fridays being busy, cold Wednesdays, not so much. I love having kids come-- even big kids. My older son is still out there somewhere... Younger ds is sorting and counting. Dd is at a pizza party/Lifeline Mass planning meeting. She'll be thrilled that we have leftovers... And for some weird reason, even though we OWN It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, my kids still prefer to watch it while it's being broadcast (and they are 15, 12 and 8!) Why, oh why would some adult give poor Charlie Brown a rock!!?
Deus te Amat
I haven't had a single trick-or-treater all night. More for me
AccountDeleted
My sister, who lives in Melbourne, lives in hope every year and buys candy, then ends up eating it herself! I worried that someone might come to my door and I have no candy, but no one came. Australia is starting to have some Halloween parties, but trick or treating just hasn't caught on yet.
I think it seems to be dying out here. Brother Adam's experience seems to be more the way *I* remember trick or treating when I was a child. I really think the Harvest Festivals, trunk-or-treating, and Mall events are keeping kids out of their own neighborhoods... Sad....
Deus te Amat
Do people usually trick-or-treat in apartment complexes? Anyone know?
fides quarens intellectum
i think apartment parents take their kids to neighborhoods to trick or treat. at least that's what happened at my last place - no sense in going up and down a bunch of steps when you can drive to a neighborhood with houses close to each other. MissScripture
DtA, we never had anyone the 3 years I lived in an apartment, but the last 2 years you did have to have a code to get in, so unless they lived there, they couldn't get to our door. We've had about 20 kids so far. It's sort of what I expected. I wasn't sure how many we'd have though, because it is an older neighborhood. I didn't go trick-or-treating when I was a little kid, because we always went to city-wide Halloween parties, since that was touted as the safe alternative to trick-or-treating. When my sister was little they stopped having those parties, so my parents started taking her trick-or-treating and I went with 2 or 3 years. homeschoolmom
Okay... so I'm noticing another trend (noticed this in past years, too)... The "lone" kid with a mom or dad DRIVING along on the road. What? It's a nice night out. Maybe you aren't from our neighborhood. That's fine, you're welcome. But park your car and WALK with your kid. Or better yet, find a group of friends for him to go with! Much more fun.
Brother Adam
I also noticed that Teresa would give out candy based on age and cute factor. The younger and more adorable you are, the more you got. The older and the less clothes you had on, the closer you got to a rock.
