Spent The Day In Jail

Miles, I like you a lot, but I just meant that sometimes all the joking gets to be too much in a serious thread. I know you mean well, but it makes people get irritated.

If you look over the content of this thread of Catherine's, this is a VERY serious issue. It isn't the time or place to be kidding around and bringing in your own stuff. OK? No insult meant, and I only am saying this on the thread because I am responding to your question. If you have further questions about my response, just send me a PM, ok?

Of course. I did say that I hoped the situation got better and I will pray for the person. I just like to take every chance I can get to make fun of myself. It helps a lot with humility. Perhaps this wasn't the best time to do it and I am sorry if it irritated you.

Now, back to the thread. I've been reading it and I'm glad everything seems to be working out. I'm a little jealous, to be honest. Parachuting sounds fun.

Honestly, unless we were in your head, there was no way to tell that you were joking.

I know that you are trying to fit in around here and are honestly not trying to upset anyone. Why don't you try looking around at what jokes get the most props and see how they fit in specific situations? There is a place for everything and everything in its place. A joke made by, MIKolbe, for example, a father and husband and breadwinner and goofball, would be made in an entirely different context than a joke made my Lil'Monster, a lovable, crazy, young woman. To imitate is the sincerest form of flattery, but not necessarily for the person making it. Does that make sense?

We actually signed up with the Chemo program here. That's a group that works with kids with fetal alcohol or developmental disabilities to work towards independent living. They think they have made a match for us. It's a young man who's 20 and works at the local supermarket. He has PDD from his mom's drug use while pregnant. His functional level is similar to someone with Down's Syndrome. Basically we provide a place for him to live, make sure he gets to work and has something decent to eat, and work towards him learning to live on his own. Since his disability is permanent, he may never be ready to live by himself, so it could become a permanent home for him. Zack actually likes the idea. It would take up his spare room so it wouldn't be available to be used as a flop house by his addict brother. It would also pay his rent for him. We all have a meeting together when Austin gets back from Lexington next week. We could say no, Zack could say no, or this young man could say no to us. It has to work on all sides. Zack has a sister who used drugs with all her kids, and I think he likes the idea of providing a home to someone damaged like that. Kind of paying back karma in a way eventhough her drug use wasn't his fault.

I'm sorry, I got busy and completely forgot. They continued it until June because the psychiatrist didn't get his report done on time. His attorney did say that in the 30 years he's been an attorney in juvenile justice, he's never seen a more positive pre-sentencing report. He has complied with every request, he is respectful (or I'd have his legs broke), has kept every appointment, and has gone above and beyond by joining cadets and going to therapy. He has shown real remorse, is paying restitution even before being ordered to, and a couple of dozen letters of reference all saying what he did was completely out of character. So we are in another holding pattern, as often happens in these kinds of things.

Catherine I am just amazed at all you are doing!! (I'm curious about what happened with the young man with the Chemo (?) program?) Prayers for all of you!!

We are waiting for our background checks to go through. We can't do anything more until then. I did find out that it is spelled Chimo. I tried searching for them to look up a phone number and all I got was cancer stuff.

The biggest hold up is that we just aren't done with the renovations. This is what happens when perfectionists get together. Zack and I that is. Austin would live on the sub floor and not notice for a few months.
