MarysLittleFlower
For a while, I believed in Millennialism and spoke about it to others, though more in the form of asking questions rather than teaching them this idea (however I did imply that I agreed with it). I read that the Church doesn't support this teaching but I still believed it because I was afraid of offending God. Later on I decided to just leave it to God and be obedient to the Church. However, I am concerned that I have committed the sin of heresy, and more than that, that I have received the automatic excommunication for heresy... I just wanted to know, could this be the case? If so, what should I do, - I heard that I could just talk to my priest and he could take away the penalty in Confession? Apparently this is a reserved sin and only the Bishop can take away the excommunication, but I also heard that the Bishop of my diocese has given the priests the faculty to do this. Furthermore, I am Eastern rite Catholic, but my church (Russian Catholic) doesn't have its own Bishop (and I don't live near a parish of my own rite) - and my Bishop is apparently the local Latin rite Bishop. Does this mean that the Latin rite bishop could take away the excommunication (if it is there), and since he gave this authority to the priests in the diocese, I could just talk to my regular confessor? I'm sorry this is really complicated, but it's been bothering me quite a bit. Thank you!!
Theoketos
Heresy is defined as an obstinant refusal to hold to what the Church teaches. It seems that you were imply unaware of her teaching. Since, by the grace of God, you have found out the teaching of the Church and have accepted, I would not think you are a heretic. Relax, Jesus loves you.Oh, and Yes, the bishop would have the faculty to remove the excommunication.
