MissScripture
I've been trying to do a lot more homemade stuff and make things at home, and for the most part, it's been going really well. But somehow, today, I managed to kill both my waffle iron and my hand mixer. Any suggestions for replacements that will take a beating? I would prefer hand mixer over stand mixer, because of space issues in our kitchen (we have limited cupboard space and almost no counter space). Thanks. Luigi
My father once used my mother's hand mixer to whip up a small batch of concrete - and completely ruined the mixer in the process. I think you could you a concrete mixer in place of a hand mixer - I know concrete mixers can take a beating.
MissScripture
I'm not sure that will fit in the kitchen...

BG45
I don't really have a suggestion for the mixer, but in my extremely space limited kitchen with almost no counter space, I know that a kitchen island from Wal-Mart made all the difference in the world. I literally have about an inch on either side of it to open the oven door and the refridgerator door.

prose
I use my mixer ALL THE TIME now that I have four kids. My suggestion? I got a cheap one (because they are going to break anyways) and I bought a backup at an auction. You can check kijiji or craigslist or whatever is in your area. I don't believe in spending a fortune on something that I am going to need to replace in a year anyways, lol Best kitchen buy of all time for me? The magic bullet. LOVE it. Use it all the time for EVERYTHING. Literally, the best kitchen gadget I own.
Either one of those brands is really good... but generally expensive. I've got a cheap 12 dollar hand mixer that's seen me through tons of stuff. I also have my Kitchenaid stand mixer that I use for 90% of my stirring. I even use it for mashing potatoes and mixing meatballs.

MissScripture
I'm getting really annoyed with half the reviews being "This doesn't work like a kitchenaid! Kitchenaid is so much better!" Really? That's probably why this mixer is 1/3 of the price of the Kitchenaid!
vee
Kitchenaids are expensive but in its case you get what you pay for. My mom and sister both have that brand and we use them at work as well. In the mean time you could just keep going through hand mixers til you have the money and space for the investment of a ktichenaid. Its like buying a Le Creuset pot, youll never need another one again. drool

Anyway, i agree with the 2nd hand idea - thrift stores are another good place to check, too. MissScripture
I just talked to my mom and she thought I was talking about the 30+ year old hand mixer they gave me when I went to college. But no, that one still works! And she told me they have another one at home, still in the box, because they got that and a stand mixer for their wedding, and kept it as back up, but never needed it (the one they gave me had been my dad's before they got married). So, I'm going to try to just use those for now, at least until the holidays, and see if anything goes on sale for a really good price. But I'm still really sad that my waffle iron doesn't work, and they don't make that kind anymore! I loved my duck and cow shaped waffles!
