The postman brought me a present today. Its from a lovely friend who I saw fr the first time in a couple of years at Daniel's ordination. Goodness hows how it camo out in conversation, but I tol;d her I struggled with a standard prayer stool as I wasn't used to thenm (used a palisee at Q - a block you straddles) and since a bad ankle injury I have found them very uncomfortable.

Well today in the pacgake from her was a beautiful stool, very tradtitionally shaped but different enough, and just trying it out it feels amazing!

Ooh - now I'm jealous - I love prayer stools. I used to have a lovely one but it got left behind somewhere along the way. Yours looks lovely. Mine have always had the two legs on the sides but this one looks like it could be very comfortable too.

The more usual shape (leg at either side) are the most common, but since I hurt my ankle it doesn't move quite normally and I found then very painful on mt briff live-in ans knew I needed to talk to SrMJ. I had seen and used ones with a single leg, but didn't find them stable enough, especially as they use them for Mass. This seems the perfect combination from an extremely insightful friend. Its marked as 'Handcrafted by Jamie Speirs'.

Also, prayer stools can be found on these websites, thought they are the standard form:

Faith, you can "convert" your zen meditation stool to Christianity! :saint2: Whoot! That's one lucky stool! It's a definite plus (as you prob'y know from exper) to be able to start using now time the stool you'll be using in the monastery . . .

MM, thanks for posting add'l links - may be shopping for a second stool - good to have multiple opts

Faith,
What a wonderful gift...and a wonderful friend!. Don't you just love surprises, especially when it's something that you really need?
Perhaps this will inspire me to be generous and surprise one of my friends with a gift she needs but doesn't expect.

I've never used a prayer stool, only a kneeler. Are they comfortable? Does it take a long time to get used to?

I've been sitting on it all afternoon - while sewing, watching tv etc - and it is so comfortable, definately so much better for me than the usual shape and almost as good as my old palissee. Some don't agree, but I find comfort at prayer a very valuable think, so much easier to pray when youre not in pain!
