mp15
I know this has been talked about over and over, but I really need a straight answer. My son is getting ready to receive first communion and during the rehearsal the parish priest had them gather around the alter, which is where he says they will be during the consecration. I was not happy in the least with this revelation and so I had a chat with one of the Sisters who is helping with their religious education. She informed me that for a Children’s Mass it was totally acceptable for the children to be gathered around the alter during the consecration. Is this true? Any documentation to show they are in the wrong would be great, as they have failed to show me documentation showing it is allowed. Also, my wife and I are getting ready to move to a new city where the local parish has the Lifeteen program. I talked to a lady (a secretary at the parrish) about my concerns with the Lifteen program (about the liturgical abuses) and was told the Bishop of our diocese didn't have a problem with it so that is why they instituted it. Am I bound to show obedience to the Bishop on this or can I take my concerns to a higher level? Thanks so much for your answers. Pio Nono
JMJ 5/2 - Fourth Sunday of Easter mp15, I like your avatar; that statue (Equestrian of Marcus Aurelius) is one of the coolest I've ever seen. Anyway, your questions... 1.) To be honest, I have never seen or heard of anything that allows altar calls for children's Masses. Just politely ask whoever is in charge to point you in the right direction for finding a source for this; if one actually does exist, please let me know. 2.) Regarding the Lifeteen issue, pray about it for a little while; a month might be a good amount of time. Then, if you feel it necessary, just shoot the pastor a quick note. Hope this helps.
