Pax domine bretheran and others...
I was whacked with a bolt of light about this parable in the gospels where there are varios workers employes at various hours through the day all working till sunset and all promised the same wage....
Well dizz iz it my reveation iz that we can be happy working full time, part-time or casual, according to if we wan't more or are happy with less, although one may choose to work more to give more, what i'm getting at is we all get the same reward, not actual wages but fullfilment according to how much each individual needs. Still if one is working casual or part-time and happy with very little material wealth the remainder of the time should not be frivulated so to speak but dedicated to prayer, meditation, examination of concience, the sacraments and holy mass, evangelising(bretheran and others),discerning the word and/or good deeds, possibly one could not accomplish all of this every spare time outside of work. But in that one is not to dimminish the part the full time worker plays in there charitable action of giving money to the church and various charities and/or family and the homeless guy on the street or busker possibly, one could hope the fulltime worker still sets aside some time as often as capable to prayer, meditation, the sacraments and holy mass, fellowship with family and/or bretheran and/or others, discerning the word... anyhow i can not let this become a waffle and start adding to much to what was revealed to me.

Ok god bless.
p.s. my discernemt of the word does not come with the nihil obsat or imprimatur and as always needs to be prayed about and talked about in fellowship and possibly to a priest. and even if i was granted ever a nihil obstat(that would be so razzle dazzle) i would demand it all be edited and the editor to be able to add to and take away as much as needed. :cupid: keep dreaming homie says the angels :cupid:
P.s.s Also please anyone elses thoughts or what they have heard of thios passage of scripture.

I agree with nunsense ...

My take: the point of the scripture is that God calls at different points. He can call early on, or later in life. It doesn't matter when -- because the recompense (eternal life with the Beloved) is the same. What matters is our response ... do I choose to work in the vineyard when invited by the Lord?

I was also told once that this was an act of mercy because it was a day's wage to support themselves and their families. Maybe they didn't know he was hiring earlier or regretted not taking up his offer from before.

My take: you cannot ask for more than eternal life, which is the just reward for those who do God's work. The quantity of God's work does not guarantee more eternal life because eternal life is eternal and you can't have more than eternal. Make sense?

The main lesson I see in the parabol is to guard yourself against greed and working towards towards the reward. You should do God's work because of your love of God, not because of what God offers you. You should not try and quantify your love of God so much as to worry about nourrishing it and keeping it precious and sacred. You should not bring yoruself to compete with others and claim that 'you love God more than anyone else' but simply be joyful and content with the fact that you take part in God's love and this taking part in His love should suffice you.

And it will suffice you if your love is genuine. But you must distinguish between love of God and love of what God can provide for you.

To add on further, we shouldn't be jealous of what God blesses other people with, even converts and those who don't appreciate what God has given them. We also shouldn't look down on those who converted later in life or even sincerely converted on their death bed. Our Lord seemed to be hinting to those who objected to Him reaching out to sinners and Gentiles. As He said in a gospel reading on Matthew's feastday, a physician comes to heal the sick, not the healthy. He didn't come to pat those who were following God's commands (or who were surerficially doing so) on the back, but to rescue sinners.

"even converts" sounds very patronising - but I am sure you don't mean to be. "Even converts' includes St Paul, the Apostle, by the way! And St Teresa of Avila's family were 'conversos'.

And Jesus said that the first shall be last and the last first.... I take this parable of the same pay for everyone to mean that we shouldn't be jealous of anyone else because God loves each one of us in a special and unique way and gives us each exactly what our soul needs to achieve sanctity if we want it. What someone else gets is not what we need and vice versa.

No I didn't mean it to sound that way. Some may be vain about being craddle Catholics. "You came later while I have been with Christ my whole life." :harhar:
