There are differing theories to the origin, one is that is a pre-Roman native name because it is not related to Greek or Arabic, Dictionary.com offers this; 1750–60, Americanism ; < Spanish, alteration of Old Spanish arvanco; perhaps akin to Latin ervum .

Anyways garbanzo is more fun to say that chick peas.

It's neither a chick nor a pea. Discuss. :)

A peanut: It is neither a pea nor a nut.

Therefore, both peanuts and chickpeas are both imposters and should be duly punished.

The only reasonable punishment for their crime is that they both be blended up. I propose that we make the chickpea into hummus and the peanut into peanut-butter. I have spoken.
