Little Flower
Thanks so much! I'll have to see if my library has any of these books! Or if I can get them used! I've read already A Right to be Merry, the Screwtape Letters, and Story of a Soul. I loved them

sistersintigo
An earlier post has already name-checked "Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy," on the Soeurs Dominicaines de Bethanie. The author is Rumer Godden, and also by her is "In This House of Brede" on cloistered Benedictine nuns. "My Beloved" is from Carmel, hard to find, and well worth studying. faithcecelia
Last Conversations of St Therese - her beauty and simplicity but without the sugariness of SOS The Love that Keeps Us Sane by Marc Foley - Little, pocketbook size, easy to read in one go, Therese's common sense that kept her going and true to the Rule in what was basically a not great Carmel - this was the book that finally helped me to 'get' Therese

faithcecelia
For novels I like Going In and Life Class by Jenny Newman, who was a former nun herself. They are set in 1980s Liverpool, in a teaching order and each book is written from the perspective of a different sister. They are definately novels and must be taken as such, but much of the day to day basics of the life discribed in the books is very much what I experienced in Carmel today! Sister Marie
Catholic Sisters and the Making of America - if you can ignore the women's rights rhetoric, it is an exciting story of passionate and exciting efforts of apostolic women trying to bring the Church to the poor and forgotten... if you can't ignore the agenda... don't read it .. it will just upset you. I enjoyed the stories of the women who had the guts to do what they could with no money and no guarantee of success... It's certainly inspiring!
