No. That's what being PC is. It's courtesy until that courtesy is extended to a subject, like racial-identity, that one doesn't believe is worthy of courtesy, at which point it magically transformed from courtesy to sissified PCing. Socrates gave your comment props. How many times has he referred to Islam as Muhammadism because he 'refuses to be PC?' It's basic courtesy to refer to an individuals religion as they denote it. The Qur'an is clear that the religion instituted by Muhammad is Islam. Muhammadism is a pejorative. However Socrates doesn't think that the religious sensibilities of Muslims is worth of even neglegible levels of basic courtesy and therefore constantly 'refuses to be PC' and calls it Muhammadism. But if I throw out a bunch of pejoratives to Catholicism then I'm not simply refusing to fluff up my opinions with Political Correctness, I'm just lacking in courtesy. It's a stupid, vapid term that has no meaning. The people here flouting how they 'refuse to be PC' are basically saying 'I refuse to be courteous to things that I do not deem worthy of courtesy'. Which is fine but it's also almost a truism and something that is idiotic to brag about. Edited September 29, 2011 by Hasan

Seven77
Hasan, I think that you are confused… courtesy and political correctness are two different things that can possibly overlap or may seem to overlap. As for Islam, I believe that it is not just politically correct to refer to it as such but it is also courteous to do so. I will call it Islam because I believe that it is courteous of me to refer to the religion by the name its adherents call it. As a Catholic, I believe it is conducive to refer to the religion founded by Mohammed as Islam rather than Mohamedism or whatever. Good for dialogue. Good for evangelization. PC talk has to do with politically expedient reasons. Sometimes PC folks think that they are being courteous. You could be onto something when you say that some folks refuse to be courteous because they “refuse to be politically correct.”
