hey. i have two questions because i wont be here for a few days and they tend to pile up in me. so here goes...
1) is secular music allowed at mass? im in my High School choir and we do the music for mass each month. this month (for a reason unknown to me) our choir leader is having us do a song (during the distrabution of the Eucharist) taht is apart of our spring concert. it is not a religious or "church" song. in fact the song is "April is in my Mistress' Eye" if you know it. he said that it is "ok... you wont have to go to confession... etc" i dont feel right singing it. if it is allowed, ill do it with some reservation. if it is not, well, ill have to think of something. i have just been under the thought that the Novis Ordo (dont know if i spelled taht right) didnt allow secular music, espesh during the Eucharist.

THIS IS A QUOTE FROM THE GENERAL INSTRUCTION OF THE ROMAN MISSAL:

393. Bearing in mind the important place that singing has in a celebration as a necessary or integral part of the Liturgy, all musical settings of the texts for the people's responses and acclamations in the Order of Mass and for special rites that occur in the course of the liturgical year must be submitted to the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for review and approval prior to publication.

While the organ is to be accorded pride of place, other wind, stringed, or percussion instruments may be used in liturgical services in the dioceses of the United States of America, according to longstanding local usage, provided they are truly apt for sacred use or can be rendered apt.

It would seem that only songs and musical settings approved can be used in the USA
